This entry in the series of self-awareness articles I started in the summer of 2014, includes the weather. In it, I share my personal weather beliefs and the weather-related experiences that have made them so.
I don’t think that anyone who has read my entry is surprised to hear that my weather believes that when you go outside, you should be wearing layers. I also know that it is true that I have never been outside without wearing a sweater or raincoat. I find it odd, however, that I live in a place where I do not have to put on a jacket when I go outside.
I grew up in the northeastern United States, and I don’t know what I would have done without the weather. My parents, however, do (or do not), so it isn’t as if I can blame them for the weather. I was born in the Northeast on a cold day in the middle of summer.
A person without self-awareness is also not aware of the weather. I grew up in the Northeast with the weather of the Midwest and the cold climate of the Deep South. The same seems to be true for me. When I was a child in the Northwest, I grew up in the Midwest. When I was a child in the Northeast, I grew up in the Deep South. But the real story of Poe’s life is more complicated.
The real story of Poe’s life is that he was born in 1805 in the North Province of New York, lived his early years in St. Croix Falls, Illinois, and then moved to the rural town of Ellicott. It was during his years living there that he began writing the stories that he would put to paper later in life. And the part about the Poes moving to a rural area would be the point where Poe’s life ended up getting messed up.
